 # What’s Really In Those Books? - Eye on the Issues - Episode 028

In this episode of Eye on the Issues, we are joined by Mary Schmidt of the Natrona County School Board. You might recognize Mary's name from recent news articles [like this](https://cowboystatedaily.com/2022/11/29/outgoing-and-incoming-natrona-school-trustee-board-members-trade-insults-over-graphic-books/) one or, most recently, [this one](https://cowboystatedaily.com/2023/05/10/school-board-votes-to-keep-meth-and-sex-books-in-casper-high-schools/). Like so many others, Wyoming Liberty Group has heard about the controversial books in school libraries statewide. So, we decided to see what is in these books for ourselves. Are they that bad? What's the big deal? Why are some fighting so passionately to block access to these books while others are fighting so hard to keep children's access to this material open?

We knew we should go straight to the front lines for the best information, and Mary was the right person to call. Mary gives an excellent overview of the situation and what drove her to take a stand. We've also included below a .pdf of information from one of the books Mary mentions called "Crank ." We have also included a memorandum from the Natrona County School District #1 reconsideration committee. We want to know, Wyoming, should kids have access to this stuff in our public schools? Are you a parent in Wyoming and have first-hand experience with this problem? Let us know! We want to hear from you.

Stay tuned to WyLiberty.org over the coming weeks as we post additional examples of what is really in these books.
