[...] Benjamin Barr, Counsel at the Wyoming Liberty Group, first spoke with Michael about the concept of Medical Freedom Zones back in 2010. He returns to dig deeper into this proposed mechanism that would Americans to bypass the burdensome bureaucratic barriers blocking their access to affordable and/or innovative medical treatments. This government over-regulation is creating a growing demand for medical tourism; 500,000 patients sought care outside of the U.S. in 2008. Mr. Barr recently coauthored a 68-page report outlining his proposal to help these patients find the care they need in the United States rather than abroad:http://wyliberty.org/liberty-brief/medical-freedom-zones/.
Isn't the objective to kill the Ba#$#$#? I don't care what method is used. Lets go back to hanging as this was the method used when the Bill of Rights was adopted, so it must be Constitutional. And lets go to the crime program Thomas Jefferson proposed when he was governor of Virginia. If you were sentenced to death on Tuesday, you were to be hung on Wednesday. The only exception was if you were convicted on Saturday, the hanging was on Monday. If the state elects to go with a firing squad, I will volunteer. I will even bring my own rifle and ammunition. But don't be surprised if the supremes want to rule on what ammunition to use.

Sven, there have been several children that died during these BMTs in Minnesota, and considering that only a total of 18 children have been given the transplant and at least 7 have died that I know of (possibly more, have not followed recently), the "90%" success rate is highly inflated. I know of at least one child whose BMT did not work and others whose condition did NOT improve. To say these BMTs are a gamble and a risk, at one million dollars a pop, let's just say they are highly unlikely to be called a 'cure' anytime soon. I would not get my child to have one no matter how sugar coated they tried to make it.
We have had a TON of different medical insurances, and for 12 years we were DENIED practically everything. We even had a personal BANKRUPTCY because the bills became unbelievable.
If the point of this article is to say that in this country there needs to be something people can do besides the National Health Care system, for God's sake, SAY SO! But to compare a system of National Care to a System of FOR PROFIT insurance companies who can and will put the interest of GREED before the health of the patient, it's an ill fitting argument. Like I said, I live EB every single day, I know first hand. Just because you had a happy story, that does not mean it works well for everyone, and as a matter of fact, if we had to compare any National Health Care system to a for-profit insurance system, you will clearly see a longer life expectancy, better overall health care and you would not be forcing people into Bankruptcy of American brought me. Food for thought.

I'm still waiting for the legislature to eliminate the last "temporary" sales tax hike, enacted in the '90's during the last downturn to cover the entitlement spending enacted in previous years. Our so-called "conservative" legislature seems determined to prove that they can spend like a drunken sailor, just as well as "liberals" can. During the last decade, discretionary spending actually tripled in this state.

The first thing to do is fire some of those government employees. Most Wyomingites would consider it shameful that Wyoming has more of them per capita than every other state in the nation. What happened to that reputation for self-reliance?

Excellent article, Susan, thanks for that. But don't you think it needs a link to “The Power of The Powerless”? I managed to find an excerpted version, which was an excellent read.

Thank you for this remembrance of Havel. Although he was not exactly a libertarian in his political thought, he was deeply independent and a great fighter for human freedom.

You might enjoy an essay I wrote about Czechoslovakia for Liberty magazine some years ago: http://stpeter.im/writings/rand/eyes.html
