In 1941, Franklin D. Roosevelt defined four freedoms: freedom of speech and worship, and freedom from want and fear. While we do all have the right to freedom of speech and worship, the notion we could somehow be freed from want and fear has resulted in less freedom and an avalanche in the demand for phony rights.
Two weeks ago I headed down to Las Vegas for FreedomFest. Now in its ninth year, FreedomFest is an annual gathering that features a variety of liberty-oriented speeches and panels and now draws over 2,000 attendees. This year’s speakers included Judge Andrew Napolitano from Fox News, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey, Senator Rand Paul, and many other notable figures. The three-day conference does not leave much room for sleep, especially combined with the glitz and craziness of the Vegas Strip, but that’s what the week after I returned to Cheyenne was for.
